Who's the best in the role of Doc Holliday?

In my very humble opinion:
1. Kirk Douglas
2. Val Kilmer
3. Dennis Quaid
4. Jason Robards
5. Victor Mature
What do you think?

i thought val kilmer was excellent, doc's slightly humourous desperation and courage were spot on

Was this not worth an award of some sort?

Kilmer was best, followed by Douglas.

I spend my money on dope, sex and cheap thrills.
The rest of it, I waste.

reply

In my also humble opinon Dennis Quaid is the best by far. None of the others, though fine actors in other roles, holds a candle to him here.

reply

Kiefer Sutherland

The "Doc" in Young Guns was NOT Holliday, it was Scurlock!!!

reply

Spurlock. But you're point is right.

If we all liked the same movie, there'd only be one movie!

reply

For me it's down to Douglas and Kilmer. I definitely prefer the film GAOKC to Tombstone, but it may be a toss-up between Douglas and Kilmer.

Kilmer should have gotten Oscar nomination. It's the only thing I've ever liked him in.

Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday is my favorite, but I think each actor (excluding Victor Mature because I haven't seen My Darling Clementine in so long) fit well in their respective movie.

reply

I've seen Clementine a few times and based on the tone of the film, Mature was right for the role. It's waaaay different from the other movies.

reply

Quaid!!

Quaid gets my vote, based on existing photos of the real Doc, plus the fact that Quaid, already a lean actor, lost forty pounds for the role. Val Kilmer gets special mention for sporting a Southern accent (Holliday was a Georgian. His TB was a direct result of malnutrition suffered when he was a child during the Civil War).

reply

VAL, first & foremost!!!

reply

Clementine is my favorite western and I think it's one of Mature's best roles. And I'm not even a big fan of his.

reply

Obviously you haven't seen "Demetrius and the Cowboys".

reply

My favorite Doc is Val Kilmer by far. I would switch 1 & 2, and 4 & 5.

reply

Kilmer is the best Doc, when people speak about Kilmer this is the role(along with Jim Morrison) they speak bout...Quid was good and so was Douglas...but Kilmer was the man

reply

Kirk Douglas is the man.

Kilmer's too prissy, Quaid's too wooden, Robards too weak, and mature miscast.

I would have to go with:
1. Val Kilmer (most historically accurate)
2. Victor Mature
3. Kirk Douglas

What are you gonna do? Kill me? Every body Dies. John Garfield (Body and Soul)

reply

Val Kilmer was so good as the "Suthun' Gentleman" - I honestly was shock when he did not get an Oscar nod that year for supporting actor.

reply

Val Kilmer, without a doubt gave the best portrayal.
