No blood...

I guess I'm spoiled by CGI shots making the entire head explode or putting a huge hole in somebody's stomach, but when I watch these old movies and don't see any blood, it's hard for me to get what's happening.

The gang shot Cotton in the back trying to flee - was he hit or did he just fall off the horse on his own?
When Ringo got the gun shot out of his hand, did it destroy his hand? No, he was able to shoot again later.
Somebody gets shot, they crouch over. Was he killed or just injured?

Without the blood, I don't have enough clues to the severity of the shot.
I don't need the gore, but I guess I don't experience with the hints the actors from the 50's give to let the audience how badly they were shot.

The most sanitized shooting was Wyatt shotgunning Ike. He pretty much cuts Ike in two, but all we see is Ike clutching his guts and falling.

It was 1957. Onscreen assaults and deaths were very sanitized. Still around 12 years away from The Wild Bunch giving everyone a hyper dose of reality.🐭

On the other hand, it's gone completely in the other direction at this point. We get more blood than the human body is capable of holding. You watch something like Reservoir Dogs and we're supposed to believe Mr. Orange would still be conscious at the end.
