(Jeff Morrow = Rod Taylor) I was thinking the same thing. Morrow also resembles slightly, Robert Stack. The "Claw" looked a little like Rodan.
sharewith mara corday i'd say the resemblance to ava gardner generally has to do with her makeup, hairstyle, and wardrobe. to me, mara looks like a "generic fifties american brunette actress." i guess all those "generic fifties american brunette actresses" were trying to copy ava's look to some extent. but ava was distinctive, while most of these brunettes just came off looking "generic." (my mother tried to copy the "ava gardner look" in her younger days, to the extent that my father sometimes referred to her as "a poor man's ava gardner.")

Watching the movie, I also was struck by the resemblance of Jeff Morrow to Rod Taylor. And except for the Mexican el cheapo puppet space buzzard (Rodan was much better looking, as flying monsters go) the movie wasn't bad at all - about on par with "The Deadly Mantis".
Rod Taylor always looked to me like a younger, more handsome version of Robin Williams. In fact, when Robin was alive, I always felt that if they ever felt like making a sequel to The Time Machine, they should hire him! Sadly, this will never happen now. :(
