Not My Favorite Western

At the time of starting this thread, there were eight reviews written for this film. Seven reviewers gave it very high praise, and one pretty much put it in the tank. I read all eight of the reviews before watching this film to get an idea of the storyline. As things turn out, this is another western one would think I had seen in my youth, but at the end of the film, I was pretty certain I had never seen it before. In the past few months I have seen several old westerns from my youth which I did not see at the time. Hard to believe I missed any westerns back then.

This film had a good cast, and I have always looked forward to everything with Nick Adams - especially Johnny Yuma. I also like Derek back when this was made. I did not, however, like the film as much as the seven positive reviewers did, and I did like it more than the one negative reviewer. I am at somewhat of a loss to explain exactly what I did not like about the film. It was not boring as one suggested, but perhaps the story was not written as well as it might have been. For my tastes, "Open Range" was one of my favorite western films. I know the storyline between these two films is different, but it seems to be more than just storylines. I would think "Fury At Showdown" should have been a good story, but it seemed to need some better writing.

This was not my favorite western, but it sure wasn't that close to the bottom.

Best wishes,
