Kay Thompson

God, I thought she was fabulous in this! Stole every scene she was in. Great voice...I can see why she and Judy Garland were such good friends in real life.

She only made four movies anyway.

I thought she was hilarious! She played the hard-edged businesswoman so well, and hit her comedy marks wonderfully. Plus, she had a great voice and a fabulous wardrobe. :)

yeah, I've posted a lot of negative things about the movie but I don't have much that's bad to say about Kay Thompson in the movie. Certainly she's an interesting presence in such a film. The first time I saw it, I kept hoping she and Astaire were going to hook up! She seemed pretty sexy, probably more woman than he deserved at that point in his life. They could have made life a bit of a sweeter hell for each other.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'

Saw the film for the first time last week and thought Thompson's character was pretty avant-garde for its time: an independent female executive who doesn't need a man to fulfill her every waking moment. I, too, thought Maggie & Dick were better suited for each other than Dick & Jo!

Isaac5855 , as usual, you're dead on and I agree with you unutterably. Kay Thompson is absolutely wonderful in the film and is a major component of what makes this film one of my very, very favorites. I just can't get enough of it.

As I'm very fond of saying, Isaac, great minds swim in the same stream.

I agree, she was great and really held her own against Astaire and Hepburn, which is no easy feat.

Just pure talent all around in this film.

Agree that Kay Thompson was wonderful, especially in the musical numbers. The brash, hard-driving, Eva Arden-esque woman executive was pretty progressive in 1957. However - the character type had already been done – very well – at least a quarter century before, by Kay Francis in ‘Man Wanted’ and Ruth Chatterton in ‘Female’, to cite a couple of examples.

I was reminded of Judy Garland as she sang. Kay Thompson had a great voice for show tunes.
