This movie reminds me of the 1967 British horror film "Island of Terror," where these turtle-like creatures are created after scientists looking for a cancer cure have a laboratory mishap. The creatures kill by sucking all the bone from from humans and animals. All that's left of the victims is a "horrible mush," as one of the film's characters gently puts it. Anyway, this film is similar to "Fiend Without a Face" because of the creatures.

I also immediately thought of the movie Island of Terror when I read of this movie. The movie was called "Night of the Silicates" when I saw it. It is also called "The Creepers". It was a little hard to get my hands on it. I eventually got a copy from Amazon.com. It was worth the effort. I really enjoyed the rustic Irish island setting. The acting was great too!

Another wonderful movie with a similar theme was "The Flesh Eaters". It chronicles the life and death battle of several poeple stranded on an island with a crazy German scientist. Here's a description:

A deranged Nazi scientist (Martin Kosleck) hopes to revive the Third Reich by breeding a new strain of flesh-eating bacteria. But his ultra-private work is interrupted when a movie star, her secretary, a pilot and a beatnik crash the party. B-movie master Jack Curtis directs this forgotten cult classic, which holds the dubious honor of being one of the only horror flicks of its kind to be shot entirely on Long Island.

The resulting creatures are very similar to these other movies. I think you'll really have fun with it! I rented this one from Netflix.

Good luck!

Universal HD Channel has been playing "Island of Terror" recently so I recorded it with the HD DVR. Great picture. Yeah, I agree "The Flesh Eaters," which I own on DVD, probably falls into the same category as "Fiend without a Face," as well.

Regarding "Fiend Without a Face," I haven't seen it in years, probably not since the 1980s. I just can't see spending a fortune on one DVD. It never seems to show up on TV, either. I would love to see it again, though.

I'm in the EU for work and I see FWAF showing on Euro TV sometimes in the late night creature features. So cool to view it again.

I once saw a Japanese movie where there was this glistening throbbing blob-like creature from outer space that was eating up whoever got close to the fallen spaceship. There were adults and some kids in the movie....but I don't remember the name of the flick....

The Japanese movie sounds like The H Man. But one needn't have gotten close to the ship. He/it would have come to you.

But throughout it all, my motto was "Dignity! Always dignity!".

Might wanna try "X: The Unknown"....not exactly the same, but pretty similar.

If you're talking about brains on the loose, I suggest you check out The Brain From Planet Arous from 1957. It's one of those "so bad, it's pretty fun" type of movies.

2 pretty cool fix mentioned up here!!

I remember a crazy Japanese flick called Evil Brain from Outer Space. Hilarious.

reply

Well, there's FORBIDDEN PLANET, with the monster from Walter Pidgeon's id.

And, then there are a couple stories from the original OUTER LIMITS. Specifically, "Cry of Silence," with Eddie Albert (pre-GREEN ACRES) trying to communicate with some man-eating tumbleweeds. And, "Corpus Earthling," with Robert Culp (pre-I SPY/GREATEST AMERICAN HERO), where a metal plate in his character's head allows him to telepathically eavesdrop on some sentient parasitic rocks from outer space!

The Brain Eaters (1958) - same general idea: small creature with two "feelers/antennae" that get inserted in the victim at the base of the neck. Not very good. Beer helps.

Outer Limits "The Invisibles" - creature inserted in base of neck. Pretty good, with nice plot twists.
