Best actor 1957

Someone asked why Anthony Perkins didn't win the "Best Actor" academy award.

The answer is: because it went to Alec Guinness for "Bridge on the River Kwai"

Maybe Obi-Wan Kenobi used the Jedi mind trick: "you don't want to vote for Anthony Perkins" "you want to vote for Alec Guinness"

In fact, neither Perkins nor Karl Malden were nominated for Academy Awards for their outstanding acting performances, only director Robert Mulligan was nominated for Best Director. He didn't win. This award also went to the team who directed "Bridge on the River Kwai"

No matter what I do it was never good enough!

The man who should have won that year was Charles Laughton, with (arguably) his best performance ever in the wonderful film, "Witness For The Prosecution." What makes it ironic is that Laughton was initially offered Guinness' part in "Bridge" but turned it down.

Oh well...we all know what the Academy Awards are all about. Take a look at Alfred Hitchcock, who NEVER (this is true) won a Best Director Award, although his style and technique have been blatantly imitated through the years, and continue (admittedly by many Directors) to this day. He WAS finally honored with an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award shortly before his death.

Hollywood, go figure.

What a shame! At least they should have been nominated. Anthony Perkins was phenomenal.
