Good acting by Perkins

Did you notice how when Piersall is talking to anyone other than his father, he speaks in a flat monotone, in almost a recitative? And when his father shows up, he lights up and speaks with heart. You can tell he feels deeply, but he can't express it unless Dad's around. That shows exactly what's going on.

Yeah, exactly. It's like if Norman Bates played baseball. (in fact, I would bet that this film is why Perkins got cast in Psycho)

I loved how he reacted to a brush off pitch by acting like the guy was trying to decapitate him.
