Fond Memories

As tacky and disjointed this film seems,i still enjoy it 50 yrs.later for what it is : muscploixtation !

Of course,Steve Reeves is the man and he carries this limp noodle to extraordinary heights simply because of his presence...undoubtedly(he would kick off a whole cycle-muscle & sandal-well into the 60's !).

Some of the music is nostalgic even oddly surreal, but what the heck,it is the European 50's interpretation of Greek Myths(note : 1954 Ulysses w\Quinn & Kirk Douglas).

Koscina is a doll and anytime you have a hunt for "the Golden Fleece" there can still be a modicum of interest involved, however, stilted.

Steve had a lot of stage presence and will never be fully appreciated by today’s audiences. Compared to today’s bodybuilders, his physique is far more natural looking (nearly perfect). The soundtrack of the latest DVD copy of the movie has been redone and Steve’s voice was re-dubbed (more tenor than alto tone) for 95% of the film but I have a VHS copy of the movie where Steve dubbed himself. I saw him being interviewed on TV in the 1980’s and he really did have a deep, commanding voice.
