Rather Disturbing

I saw this film for the first time in the late 70's. Like many, I'd grown up on The Andy Griffith Show. Seeing the dark, malevolent incarnation of his signature character style was quite upsetting to me. Sadly, it is now known that Mr. Griffith's true personality was closer to Lonesome Rhodes than Andy Taylor.

Yep, he could turn on a dime in a Jekyll and Hyde manner, and the crazy thing is Frances Bavier, Aunt Bea, was said to be worse! I saw him in real life just once, in wardrobe as Matlock on the Universal lot. The tram driver hit the gas as I attempted to take a picture and was probably instructed to do so. Extras had been fired for not remembering to keep a certain distance from him.

I guess because his shit stunk.

I never knew this CoriS. You hear about how celebrities are in danger from stalkers and nutjobs all the time yet they insist on walking and beaming through crowds instead of being limo'd to the back or side doors of establishments. Just like we shouldn't insult minorities with demeaning and common labels, I suppose we should apply it to celebrities and state "they are not ALL like this." But the sad reality is MOST are.

The thing is the ones you will tend to meet or correspond with are the nice ones who care about pleasing their public, and if fans get the idea that celebs are like this they will end up shocked much of the time.

Really, I never heard that. Where did that come from?
