Griffith - just too much

Griffith was over the top - in not a good way - typified the Vitajek crap - went on and on and on - perhaps the writing but AG should have said 'no.'

I agree. His laugh was moronic and kind of creepy.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, or doesn't.

I know this post about a year old, but I think he played the part very well. Lonesome was a character that was over the top and performed almost to perfection by Andy Griffith.

reply

In fairness AFITC is intended to be heightened camp.

Unfortunately this takes away from the conflicting tone moments of intended drama.

reply

Who would you have cast in place of Andy Griffith?

reply

It was just a lousy film! Nothing would have helped.

Griffith should have just looked forward to Matlock and skipped the whole 'job.'

reply

Yeah, I should have figured that when I saw that it only had an ' 8.2 ' rating on IMDb and a tomatometer rating of 92% , along with an audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Hard to believe that you actually beat out a million other sperm at one point in your existence.

Idiot Trump has 40+% too. There is no difficulty finding plenty of Miss South Carolinas in the US.

reply

Well, at least we agree on something. Trump is an idiot. The only reason he opens his mouth is to change feet. No worries, though. He isn't going to win. Not that I'm all that nuts about the alternative. It's ' the year of voting dangerously '.

Nice role for Remick - but Griffith's was totally botched - enough to ruin the film for me.

I do NOT pay total attention to 'popularity' polls - I lived through years of 'More doctors smoke Camels.' Etc.

HRC no 'Wonder Woman' - but at least she lives on this planet.

reply

Well, I sure don't find it to be a lousy film. It's a bit difficult to watch at times but still worth my time. I even own it, so I can re-examine it from time to time. I don't feel Griffith is over the top, either. Guys like De Niro and Pacino and Nicholson are over the top.

reply

I own it too

Possession doesn't necessarily mean 90% of anything. 😀

reply

Who would you think might do a better job than Sheriff Andy?

somehow duplicated post

reply

Actually, the same post seems to show up 3 times in this thread.

reply

wasn't getting ANY confirmation - trying to get such must have caused the duplication

reply

You still haven't answered my question about who you might cast instead of Andy Griffith.

reply

problem was not Griffith so much as the writing/directing for his 'role'

that's why I said I was surprised he agreed to the film - or how he was to play it

reply

You're confusing the medium with the message. The Vitajek stuff was SUPPOSED to turn you off.

reply

I enjoy Sarcasm and Sardonicism immensely - this film was still crap.

Griffith didn't even come close to the Drumpf-level of Mayberry.

reply

I agree and disagree, he was defiantly ott but that was his character. I thought that the film was a comedy until later on when it got more serious with oneals character and andy getting really corrupt. yeah andys laugh could be kinda creepy lol but he was livin life to its fullest! it was kinda fun to see this average joe lapping up all this fortune and fame. the part at the end when hes looking at the black servants and is like squishing his face sayin IM GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE ME!! was pretty hilarious.

reply

"This film was still crap"? We are all entitled to our opinions but not without retort. I am going to assume you would not know a great film and terrific performance if it slapped you aside the head.

reply

I completely disagree. Griffith was fantastic.
