Yeah dude i wanna know too.
" So Lieben Wir!"
The song is in English but I get the impression its originally a German song, originally...Anybody know where I could ask? :P This seemed like the most logical place but nobody seems to know here
sharehttp://german.imdb.com/title/tt0050356/trivia
and here are the lyrics:
"So leben wir, so leben wir,
So leb'n wir alle Tage
Bei der allerschönsten Kneipkompanie.
Des Morgens bei dem klaren Wein,
Des Mittags bei dem Bier,
Vor Morgengrau'n geht's nicht ins Nachtquartier"
Its a drinking song - roughly translated:
"Thats the way we live, the way we live
the way we live all the days,
Being in the best Kneipkompanie.
In the morning with clean wine,
on midday with beer
We wont go home before the break of dawn.
The song was probably part of the offical Navy songbook or whatever its called..I dont know enough about the german military (:-))

Thanks :) Cool
shareReferance the drinking song in "The Enemy Below", I don't agree with your answer because you can hear Kurt Jurgens and others repeating the chorus line 'To you my friend and you my friend and all of us together' in several places (which does not appear in your translation) If you get a chance to reply, I would really like to get this song (in English) that I can transcribe onto paper.
share"so lieben wir" was also known by another name would you know what it is?
sharei thought i heard somwhere in the lyrics when they are all singing together they said ...Und Sagt JA VORDE!...or yes sir
shareAnyone know where I could get atranslation of the lyrics used in the film? Brainlessly, I did not tape it!
shareThe name of the song and or march they sing is in the trivia section of this movie :P
Vons
This is what they used in the film... no doubt a total rewrite of the original material; for the movie:
To YOU My Friend, and YOU My Friend
To all of us together
Here's a toast to life,
And to laughter and song,
Good cheer, My Friend, Good Beer, My Friend,
In every kind of weather
Make the welkin* ring as we sing
loud and strong,
Fill up the flowing steins again
Put foam on every lip,
Let's give a 'Scholl' and shout 'Jawhol!'
In Nazi fellowship
And when we eye a Loreli
With captivating ways
May we drink to love
All our live long days!
*The word "welkin" is a very old term for the heavens. It relates directly to the theory that the universe is made of transparent, concentric spheres that surround the earth. Our planet is the center of the system.
I believe it's "In lasting fellowship."
shareI believe it's "In lasting fellowship."
"Der Dessauer Marsch" (right in the trivia section)
"I don't want the world; I just want your half."
I'd love to find an mp3 of it. Anybody know where I could find one? I have Limewire but I'd probably have to check it every day for a couple months before I found a copy of it that actually downloaded..
Here is a magnificent rendition I found on YouTube. I don't think I've ever heard a better version:

Cool :D I don't think I'd seen that one before. Probably the most complex instrumental version I've heard.
shareIt's an oldie and apparently Prussian. There are a ton of versions on YouTube at different tempos, but I couldn't find a single one which was not instrumental.
