The unibrow: first Disney-esque and then subverting stereotype

Yes, I realise this is my second hair-related post here. But really, if not on this film, then when else?

Anyhow, at first I thought the facial hair was used to telegraph the villain status and then when they go for a hair cut/shave , I thought they'd all come back all trim and well-groomed, given they had Shankar (it was Shankar, right?) who could do a proper shaving job.

Anyhow, then they come back and still look plenty hairy and the penny kind of dropped for me. The message is for us NOT to jump to conclusions.

Kind of a smart move.

Well, I wouldn't have described any of them as having a unibrow, but that aside they certainly had plenty of hair.

But are they really subverting a stereotype? I'm not so sure.

I feel like there are two other possibilities here:

1) The remaining wildness of some of the hair is a kind of half-way position.

2) It shows that they have not lost their essential macho manliness. The boss can have a trimmed mustache, he's upper-class. They are men of the earth, they eat lots of red pepper, and only expect him to tolerate one. But in becoming non-violent, they still have himmat. And at least in some areas of India, that definitely means they should have a flourishing mustache. About the eyebrows, I do not know.

The aspect "essential macho manliness" is also my interpretation.

For me the eyebrows are not so very anomalous. One has very heavy eyebrows, but others have just normal ones in my view.

Yup, the thread might say unibrow but I meant the hair in general.
And true, elanor, only one guy had a unibrow - the guy who tries to stab the boss with the Swiss army knife right at the beginning.
