Not such a bad film

The Disembodied was obviously a cheap film, but it's really not as bad as many people make it out to be. Within its own internal logic the plot, while contrived, holds together well enough, there's some suspense, and the cast is good. At least it was done fairly professionally and while obviously shot on a sound stage, it looks good technically.

And star Allison Hayes was never sexier or more alluring than she is in this film. She oozes sexuality in all her scenes and makes for a great villainess. Her erotic voodoo dances undoubtedly show her in the most notable state of undress she ever managed in any of her movies. Let's face it, she's the film's main asset and the principle reason you'd want to see this picture!

At least this 1957 production is miles ahead of the absolutely abysmal, idiotic, confused, inept and just plain stupid (even within the confines of its own plot) Zombies of Mora Tau, a thoroughly dull and unenjoyable movie Miss Hayes got suckered into the same year...and which TCM is thoughtfully running right after The Disembodied as part of its day-long Allison Hayes festival on this date (Nov. 19, 2014).

 Here's cheers for the late, lamented Miss Hayes.
