Color
Anyone notice the dominance of the color blue or what might be described as various shades of aqua in this film?

shareDepends which version you're watching - one version has a blue hue throughout whereas when I clicked on a different link the set is a normal, beige colour.

Interesting, since IBM, who supplied the office equipment for the film was, and perhaps still is known as "Big Blue". They totally dominated the computer market during its formative years.
I've seen this movie many times over the years, on TV and video (including last night on TCM) and don't recall ever seeing an overall blueish hue to the picture. The color seems pretty natural to me.
As I recall the Sumner character was always wearing a dark blue suit.
This is what the version with the blueish hue looks like:

And this is the proper version:

I'm watching it right now and yes, I agree, there is a blue hue in the main room where the girls desks are. I DVR'D it last night from TCM.
shareRemarkable. Thanks.
shareSome say the blue colour is revisionist, others say that this is how a Fox production with colour by Deluxe from mid to late 50s should look. You can find endless arguments about that on internet if you bother to google. Fox certainly seems to enforce this look on their late 50s scope films but not much on other periods. I suppose they at least think they know what they are doing.
shareWhat is the defense for the extreme blueish hue?
shareI don't think there is any other defence that that it simply was the popular visual style at Fox at the time (and that blue was popular colour during the 50s anyway).

No doubt about it, blue was cool. Thanks.
shareIBM's colour. This movie seemed to me to be a commercial for an IBM computer, and everything else revolved around it.
