DVD in Budd Boetticher Box Set 11/4/08

DECISION AT SUNDOWN is one of five Boetticher-Scott westerns finally being released by Sony/Columbia Nov. 4, 2008 (election day), in a box set also containing THE TALL T, BUCHANAN RIDES ALONE, RIDE LONESOME and COMANCHE STATION.

These Boetticher-Scott Westerns were better than average westerns and well worth watching. They are adult type westerns even though I enjoyed them when I was a kid and still do. There are two other westerns not included above. One is Westbound which was a good movie but not as good as their others. The other one is Seven Men From Now which is a great movie with Randolph Scott and Lee Marvin. All those movies are worth seeing.

Westbound and Seven Men From Now were released by Warner Bros., so they obviously wouldn't be included in this set from Columbia (which was Scott's usual studio). Seven Men is of course available on DVD from Paramount, which has the rights to many of the films from John Wayne's production companies. But Westbound has not yet been released on disc. Boetticher didn't like Westbound, and neither did Scott particularly. Scott did it because he had one last movie commitment to WB, and asked Boetticher to direct it for him. But they both regarded it as something apart from their usual collaboration.
