The day the earth was engulfed by boredom!

What a talkfest ....

I love this movie. Go back to watching your wretched "Hostel" nonsense.

Me too! I love this movie. Give me 50's sci-fi movies over this "Saw" stuff anytime.

Cheers!

reply

I agree!!love those 50's sci-fi movies,,they have something "magical" in them that film makers have lost over the decades,,all it is now is blood, gore, kill, kill, kill,,no reason or logic to it all.I will take these over any new ones anyday, even if I have to watch them over and over again. They never get boring...Nina

Just so you know, Best Buy has Deadly Mantis as part of a Sci-Fi set.

Cheers!

There's something about giant bug movies... Them, The Beginning of the End, The Deadly Mantis... what fun!

reply

It wasn't a real classic, but I've seen much worse. TDM was another pleasant fifties surprise from Universal.

reply

YEAH! Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah, BLAH blah blah.

Everyone's a little harsh on Larry-115. Just because he says it's a talky film doesn't mean he wants torture and gore. I like the film, but must concede that it's talky. For that matter, most of the action sequences are full of stock footage of navy airplane maneuvers.

reply

Don't be mean to Larry-115. He's part of that generation that doesn't know how to think. Actually I'm surprised he watched this movie; probably no "reality" shows on then...

Too bad you don't like how the real scientific world works. You know: investigation, logical thinking, research, examination, hypotheses, experimentation, etc., ultimately reaching the proper conclusion.

If you hate this one, stay away from "Citizen Kane"!

reply

oh if this is how scientific world worked as depicted in movie then we would still be in middle ages. you dont have to be part of "that generation" as you categorize todays youth to udnerstand that this movie was bad on many accounts.

This want the best giant bug film of the era but is still entertaining and good fun.

This and THE BLACK SCORPION rock!

They take me back to my childhood and Saturday afternoon watching "Creature Feature," a local show that aired 50's and 60's monster movies.

The only thing worse than a bad movie, is someone who states their Opinion as Fact.

reply

It was rather talky to start with...ESPECIALLY the opening documentary scenes explaining to us lots of useless information about the radar sites that really didn't help the plot at all. I understand that they wanted the viewer to understand why there was a radar site in the arctic to kick-start the film, but I think they could have set up the location in a much better way without feeling the need to come off like an educational reel. There were a few more moments like that as well, such as the volcanic eruption on the other side of the Earth that really had NOTHING to do with the ice melting up north...other than to get to make the "clever" comment about equal and opposite reactions. Still, aside from that, the film was pretty good and featured a rather nifty creature effect at times.

I thought this film was quite enjoyable. 8 out of 10 from me.
