There weren't any Corporals in the AF

In one sequence the Colonel calls the Paiul Smith character "Corporal".
In 1857 the Air Force did NOT have the rank of Corporal. That was a two
striper in the Army and Marines and considered an NCO (E4). In the Air Force
a two striper was an Airman Second Class (E3). A Three Striper was the equivalent
of a Army Corporal.

Hate to break it to you, but in 1857, the USAF did not exist. 
