Nastiest Fall

Good lord the fall taken by the Professor through the railing was one of the nastiest spills I have ever seen in a movie. You can make out a crash pad below under the tile, but the actor falls headfirst and spikes himself. I have no idea how he didn't break his neck. Awful bump.

I was just posting to find any information about this. This was the most incredible header I have ever seen on gum, regardless of a crash pad. It only seemed to be like a 3" mat you would see in a gym. Hardly enough to prevent your neck from snapping, even though his arms were extended, it was still a very long fall on one's head.
The worst flaw in the scene was the fact the guy went from age 65 to 35 during the fall.

I thought the same, what a fall

also as I posted somewhere else, wouldn't people ask questions in the film about why he would fall through the barrier?

anyone got a video link?

You could see him bounce on the "solid" floor. But that still had to be a dangerous stunt to do.

He was supposed to have fallen through the railing when he was backing up to look at the picture on the wall. Don't you remember the preceding ruse?

That was a real person???? When I saw that I thought it HAD to be a dummy. I was amazed at how life-like it was. Was that definitely a real person? If so, holy shit!!!

I am just watching the movie now for the first time and paused it. You can see the floor is made of fabric, not marble and when he hits, he hits wood, not padding. The fabric floor tears and you can see the osb or plywood underneath. I found an interview quote online where Peter Cushing said Jock Easton, the stuntman was supposed to hit a padded portion of the floor but missed! I don't know how he didn't break his neck.
