The Miraculous Cure of "Jesus's" Stammer

Because I have suffered from a speech impediment from about age 4, during the Second World War, this film which I saw first in 1957/8 haunted me for many years.

Although my impediment has largely gone now, I still wanted very much to re-live my first impressions of when I first watched the film. I had a long wait. A few years ago (I probably saw it mentioned on these very boards) I saw it was available on DVD from the U.S. (I live in the UK).

My son very kindly ordered it for me for my birthday. When I sat down to watch it, I couldn't wait for the part of the film which I so vividly remembered (I thought), which was where "Jesus" was miraculously cured of his appalling stammer. Boy! Was I let down. What actually happened (in my DVD version of this film) was NOTHING like I remembered, at all.

In the film I saw in about 1957/58, "Jesus" was doing a rehearsal for his big part and the humiliation was truly shocking - and when he couldn't get his words out (to the jeers of onlookers), he fell to his knees and cried out to God for help. There was a roll of thunder and a flash of lightning - and "Jesus", from then on, could speak without hesitation. It was such a terrific moment. I remembered this scene vividly for years afterwards.

BUT, in the DVD version, nothing as dramatic as that happened at all. He was just in a garden, with friends around, and suddenly started speaking normally!

Now I know that one's memory can play very strange tricks over a long period. Also one's perceptions can wildly fluctuate. I saw films in the 50s and 60s which I found then screamingly funny - but I scarcely smiled or tittered when seeing them again in more recent times.

What I am asking is this: is there anyone out there who remembers this film and who also remembers the 'thunder and lightning' episode, as I do? Surely my memory cannot be THAT bad? I'm wondering whether there were different versions made of the film. Does anyone know?
