Wasn't it the wrong Jap flag?

The simple red circle on white flag, I thought the Japanese imperial flag had the red light rays emanating from the red circle. Not listed under goofs so I must be wrong so can anyone explain?

The Japanese navy used the flag with the sun rays. The Japanese army used the "meatball" flag of just a red circle.
