a deathly pallor

These actors are Hollywood citizens. Hollywood is in LA which is in the California desert. Moreover, this movie takes place in the desert and all its characters are desert dwellers. Unaccountably, they all look paler than ghosts, not a sign of sun tan or even sunburn. Even the victims whom Gor "burns to a crisp" are as pale as the living. I wonder if this could be an artifact of the film stock that was used. I don't think it's a kind of "overexposure" in the outside scenes, because they all stay pale even in the indoor scenes. Their ghostly whiteness always takes me out of the movie for a while every time I watch it. The pallor reminds me of very early Westerns where the cowboy actors all look faded-out.
