I knew he was a short guy, but I didn't think that short--5'6.25" vs. Loren's 5'8.5"

He probably was not that tall. Ladd had a hard life when he was young and probably did not eat well when he was growing up. Malnutrition often leads to lack of height in later life.

I have a similar build to her and when your tall and athletic (I was a dancer) you carry weight better. Even during periods when I've gained a few pounds it just adds to my voluptuousness instead of looking fat and sloppy.
Also portion control helps, she probably didn't eat large plates of pasta.
Sophia Loren lived in poverty as a child, too. She was also malnourished. Wonder how tall she would have been had she received enough vitamins and minerals and proper nutrition? She might have been a right Amazon.
