Alan Hale, Jr flying a P-51

I seem to recalled that Alan Hale, Jr. who was shot down and killed by the Yak 9s in that movie was not an officer but a sergeant. I don't recalled the USAF or the Marines, and US Navy having NCOs/Petty Officers flying fighter planes during that war.

Alan Hale Jr. was not a P-51 pilot in the movie. He was the mess sergeant. Lt Hollis, played by Simon Scott, was the one who was shot down and killed flying against the Yak-9s.
