JJ was indeed a very accomplished, seasoned professional. I too have a great fondness for "Tender is the Night". The only reservation that I would express about her is that as years passed, she seemed to assume more and more frequently a somewhat wincing expression (like someone sucking on a lemon) that could easily be mistaken for disdain or condescension. Renee Zellweger now carries on that particular tradition!

I'm not entirely certain how much JJ could have brought to "Mary Magdalene" that she didn't bring to "The Song of Bernadette".
