Things/moments that stuck out to me - SPOILERS!

1) Mammy characters - disgusting
2) Boo hoo for the poor white woman now forced to see how black women of the era feel, her continued arrogance/denial was so irritating
3) Gable slapping the French man @ the auction out of the blue had me laugh out loud
4) The horrible, accented French spoken around the house/in the shops was annoying
5) How cute was the little boy carrying Amantha's case when she was trying to run away? Wonder where that actor is now...?
6) Michelle was so nice; much better than Amantha. Too bad the way her character just died out, midway through the film.
7) Why the hell did they have all the brown folk singing all the time? Like they wouldn't have been trying to get free...noo! Just going to stand around singing and clapping like mindless eedjiots. Please.
8) lmao at the "darkies" to quote that loud short-haired female servant, the way they were all just standing around singing and weeping (again) when Amantha was sent away ugh
9) I was dying over the foul Union soldiers calling Amantha "real southern fried chicken" ahahah The top of her dress wasn't even filled out - it was lumpy and spacious to say the least. Weird outfit choice for that scene
10) What about that stupid dude that still had the slave mentality, happily grinning like a fool in the woods as he boasted that he stole from the Yanks for his good ol' massa? Spare me! I was really wondering when the movie would end...
11) That stupid sargeant that tried to cheat Sydney out of his bounty reminds me of more than one person I've gone to boarding school/university with, hmm

The only likeable person was Sidney - Amantha was a self-hating, whiny bytch and Gable had a despicable past that he seemed to comfortable repeating to anyone who would would listen

Overall, the movie was forgetable with mediocre acting (minus Sydnes and Gable). Most of the characters were disagreable and shallow. I would not recommend or watch again.

Relax...it's just a message board

The man was a Union Lieutenant (Sidney was the sargent) played by William Schallert who also played Mayor Schubert with Sidney "In the Heat of the Night"

I find it funny that somebody who feels the need to correct people's grammar and spelling is trying to correct the spelling of "sergenat" with an incorrect spelling.

Um, look at the way you just spelled it.

Hey--"sargeant" is spelled "sergeant"--and it's only one of several misspelled words. On the other hand, I pretty much agree with what you've written, but I will watch the movie again. It does have its moments.

1) disgusting to you or not, they existed.
2) Apparently, she WASN'T white! Someone you perceive as white is forced into slavery and the attitude is "good, let's see how she feels?" Race relations haven't come far, now have they?
4) Mon petite. Ugh! I think the woman playing Michele may have been the worst actress ever (actually, the one playing Dollie gives her a run for her money). Not surprisingly, she has not one other imdb credit.
7) Because that's what they did. You expected a huge revolt down in the deep south? Where the escapees had nowhere to go and they could all be slaughtered? Not going to happen. They were slaves, not buffoons.
10) Again, people like this existed. Especially house servants (like he was) who knew nothing but slavery all their lives. While not free, their lives were great compared to a field slave and many did show a degree of loyalty to their masters.
11) Yes, he was stupid. However, Rau-Ru conspired with the enemy and wasn't deserving of the bounty anyway. Actually, Rau-Ru deserved a firing squad for treason.
added #12) Poitier being dubbed for his song. Fine if Poitier can't sing, but at least get someone that sounds like Poitier MIGHT sound if he COULD sing. The singing was fine, but seeing it come out of Poitier's mouth was beyond laughable.
