Who actually sang Blow the Man Down

Does anyone know who sang the song Blow the Man Down that the character Rau-Ru played by Sidney Poitier sang for the ship captain? One site said that he lip-synced the song but did not give the actual singer. I tried searching for the answer on several search engines but did not find the answer. Thank you for any help.

Saw this movie for the first time yesterday. I was dumbfounded when Sidnay Poitier started to sing and it was certainly not his voice. I wondered whose voice it was, nice bit research domhowe.
Remembering "Lilies of the Field", didn't Poitier sing "Amen" in that movie? It sure sounded like his voice, same tone and timbre. I am surprised they didn't let him sing a simple ditty like "Blow the Man Down". That tune calls a rich voice just like his.

Don't know about "Band," but Poitier was definitely dubbed in "Porgy and Bess," by Robert McFerrin, the father of the pop singer Bobby McFerrin. The elder McFerrin was the first African-American male to perform at the Metropolitan Opera.

"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"

He surprisingly "sings" in a lot of movies, at least half a dozen.

What makes it so strange is that he admits in his autobiography that he's tone deaf, so has to mime to another man's voice every time.

So was I. Like as if it wasn't incredibly obvious that it wasn't his voice.🐭
