This Really Needs To Be Redone

Since this is Roger Corman's favorite movie of all of his movies,I was wondering if he ever plans on updating this movie, and redoing it? Since this is a real 50's classic,I would think that Corman would want to do this movie over again, and starring new actors of the time. This was scary for it's time back in 57,can you just imagine how much more scarier this would be today, with all of the newer technology? I would love to see this movie updated as it is also my favorite film too,of all of Corman's films.

I would like to see a competant remake. I didn't like the remake of Not of this Earth.

Perhaps on the scale of the Crab series of books by Guy N Smith?

Heh! I was just going to ask if anyone remembered who wrote those paperback horror novels about the killer mutant crabs. Thanks, vladstar!

reply

No problem. Do you think there should be a film based on those Crabs books? Have to be updated, tho, the books were set when not everybody had a phone in their home!

I suppose the script writers could have the undersea ones cutting the trans-oceanic cables. And, the tree-climbing ones (who usually do it for cocoanuts) could tear down telephone poles!

I read the books a few years ago but I don't remember what year they took place but there is no reason why they couldn't be filmed in a mid or early 1900's time era. I seenm to remember it mostly happened in the country side and small town areas. Not a hard problem back dating to an earlier time.

Imagine a $100 million dollar killer crabs movie, based on the books by Guy N Smith. All the gore the horror and salacious sex, now that's the movie I would run to a cinema to see, click, click, clickerty click....

reply

this movie is great, no remake please.

I saw the movie as a kid and it scared me to death. A remake IF well done, which it probably would not be, could scare a whole new generation. I was afraid to go to sleep at night, afraid the giant crabs would get me. Monster hiding under the bed. LOL

reply

I saw it a LONG time ago, so I don't remember: how did they kill the first two crabs?

reply

I'm not sure. But, I think they proved vulnerable to hi-voltage electricity.

reply

They used granate that made the cave collapse on top of the first crab. second one they trpa inside a cave with dynamite, though it is not dead and is implied that it gets out.

I don't won't them remaking movies. I mean did you see the lavish 2005 remake of king kong, the original 1933 movie was better than the 2005 verison. Although the cgi was the best that i have seen. I mean the 2005 remake took them so long just to get to the island that i almost fell sleep watching it. I haven't see this movie, but let's hope they don't remake this movie.

This film has always been my favorite of Roger Corman's, but I never knew that it was his favorite, too. Do you mind my asking where you learned this? Thanks.

reply

I would not like to see this classic re-done. I (selfishly, maybe) want to remember it the way it was...with the mind-talking crabs and the Professor from Gilligan's Island!

I didn't know that this is Mr. Corman's fav film...it's my second favorite of his, followed by "Not of This Earth" which has disappeared into obscurity! (Well, I least I won't have nightmares about flying bat-umbrella creatures...at least, until it comes out on DVD).

reply

Instead of remaking this how about taking that film budget and getting this film and restoring it to an excellent copy. When I saw this on tv in the old days it wasn't the wreck it is today. Then put it out on dvd so a great copy is out there for decades to come. When I met Mr Corman in the 80s I asked him whose sneakers those were under the crab and he smiled and said he didn't remember but I bet he really did.

reply

If it is remade I hope they make it into a musical and spare no expense making the crabs look really trashy.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

I hope they don't remake this movie because the original is probably going to be better this is what happens when hollywood does remakes the originals turnout to be better.

reply

I agree. I recently rented the DVD of the original "3:10 to Yuma," with Glenn Ford and Van Heflin. While I like that the remake had a little more gunfighting than the original, I dislike that they changed the ending from the original.

reply

Just think how great it could be, though, if it had giant killer crabs in it!?

There was a recent movie that had enough similarities to Attack of the Crab Monsters that it could almost be thought of as a remake . . . if only I could remember what the heck the name of it was. I saw it at least a year ago I think, and I believe it might have been one of those SciFi Channel original films. I searched through my list of films I've seen for it, but gave up after maybe 10 minutes. It could take me a long time to figure it out, as I might not even recognize the name when I see it. When I run into it again, I'll try to remember to post it here.
