Those "hills" you refer to were not that huge for the 1950s, it's just that the the ideal female body today is the result of more and more propaganda against women's natural shapes and emphasis on more boylike bodies and especially since 1965 only on legs. Everyone loved breasts in those days and fashion emphasized a sexy shapely body, not legs. The idea was from Dior's New Look of 1947, which shapeliess was popular even into the early 1960s, and this look followed the short austere style of the war years. Sorry if some people are upset, but those styles were prettier than what they we have today.
