Incomprehensible...spoilers

I am going through a phase of watching old "horror" films and was excited to see this based upon the mostly good praise it had behind it and the idea of a decent Yeti story. It also stars the great Peter Cushing so how could it be bad? The story was not decent nor straightforward and was mired in predictable plot devices and inexplicable supernatural occurrences. I just found it to be a challenge to watch, all the while hoping it would get better and redeem itself. Its a rather obnoxious film from the heavy handed music score to the loud mouthed Friend character and a group of supposedly experienced climbers doing a bunch of stupid stuff climbers should not do like yell and scream and shoot off guns, all of which will cause avalanches. They are under-dressed, over-equipped and doomed to fail. The strangest plot-thread involves supposed altitude sickness...or is it. Are the Yeti's playing supernatural mind games with them or is every man in the group losing it? I dont know, I couldnt figure it out and its never really explained or hinted at even though its a big part of the story. Then there is the key phrase uttered by the Lhama, "The yeti does not exisit." Well clearly it does they shot one dead, so what does that even mean? IDK? A lot about this movie makes no sense to me and I am struggling to find even one good thing to say about it... Oh did I mention Peter Cushing is in it? He's good.

Have you ever seen Creature From The Black Lagoon, or its sequel. We have an old theater in town that plays all old movies going back from the 20's to the early 60's, so they once in a while show the old horror movies. Another favorite is "The Thing From Another World" that is still my favorite. Have not seen or heard of this movie. Cushing seemed to be involved in a lot of cheap goofy movies. I remember him being Doctor Who in a feature film.

I have seen those titles you mentioned and I really liked them too. Of course you probably know that John Carpenters The Thing was a remake of The Thing From Another World. I bought the Universal Horror blu-ray box set which has The Creature from The Black Lagoon and the other big ones Dracula, Frankenstein etc. But there are a lot of old horror titles from the 50's-70's I have not seen and I am just making my way through them. Some good like The Legend of the Werewolf (1975) and others not so much like this one. Cushing has done a lot of films and usually whether they are good or not he is always solid. Liked I mentioned he was the best part of TAS.
