Haven't seen Souls At Sea but I liked The Last Survivors. A trial was added in this version.

There was a TV movie made as well with Martin Sheen in Tyrone Power's role

Yes, that's "The Last Survivors" (1975) which I thought was pretty good. It was a nice touch having a trial at the end.

Souls At Sea used to be available on youtube, but was taken down recently. Unfortunately, I was saving it for a rainy day so I didn't get a chance to watch it. I do know that it is set in the historic period (the 1840s) in which the original incident took place, and it includes the trial also. The disaster is changed from an iceberg collision to a ship fire, and theres a side plot about abolitionism and slave smuggling (I've read). I'm not a big Gary Cooper Fan, but the lovely Frances Dee appears as love interest. Other notable roles of this under-remembered brunette beauty include Meg in Little Women (1933), Amelia Sedley in Becky Sharp, and in the wonderful 1940s Val Lewton horror vehicle, The Body Snatcher with Boris Karloff. Based on what I know of it, I can recommend it, though I lament to say I haven't seen it myself. 1937 was a good year for movies, and the '30s and '40s were a golden age for nautical dramas.
