Criterion release 5/14/13

Criterion will release 3:10 to Yuma (1957) on DVD ($29.95) and Blu-ray ($39.99) on May 14, 2013.

The few extras consist of a booklet featuring an essay by critic Kent Jones, plus interviews with the author of the story, Elmore Leonard, and Peter Ford, son and biographer of star Glenn Ford.

That same day Criterion is releasing another Delmer Daves-directed western, Jubal (1956).

You don't need the Blu-ray DVD for this. The Criterion DVD is crystal-clear and shows this tremendous movie at its best! Plus, the special features included are really good.

I had never even seen a picture of Elmore Leonard before, and here is a 2013 color interview with him. He says he was paid 2 cents a word for his 3:10 to Yuma novel for a total payment of $90.00

I agree with you about not needing the Blu-ray of this or other Criterions. Their standard DVDs are excellent.

Unfortunately, since last November Criterion has switched exclusively to dual-format, combined DVD/Blu-ray editions, so we no longer have a choice of which format to purchase. It also means the end of the less-expensive Criterion releases -- DVDs for a standard $29.99, or the occasional $19.99 DVD (like Jubal) whose Blu-ray edition is just $29.99. Now, $39.99 is the new normal...when it's not higher.
