Disappointing

I've watched the remake multiple times and I love it. It's in my top 5. So I thought that the original had to be good if it spawned the remake. After watching the original, I was extremely disappointed. The dialog lacked, the characters had no substance, and the ending was so feelgood and corny. The ending of the remake was so much better. It was just better than the original in every way.

Wow. Nicely said. Thanks for being so polite about it unlike mgtbltp. Now that you mention it, the original wasn't so horrible. I'm just such a big fan of the remake that I judged the original too harshly.

Hey, yo', mistah mgtbltp. I think I hear what you're saying. You don't see that kind of honesty around much, these days, y'know?

I think with a lot of these very similar (in plot) movies you like best the one you see first. I like Casino better than Goodfellas because I saw it first. Most people like them the other way around.

So I can see why you might think that, but I completely disagree with you. The remake isn't a bad movie, but the original stands above it in every way.

At least the remake included a more diverse cast, showing Chinese men working on the railroad.

If there's a weaker argument for a remake, I must not remember it.

I agree, earthmanny. Until they got to the train yard, I thought the original was one of the better westerns I've seen.

You liked the remake, yet say the dialog lacked in the original? Check out both films again, and listen carefully.

They used so much of the first film's dialogue in the second one, the writer of the earlier picture was credited.

I was not impressed with the original either.

Nor the remake.

The OP is correct, the ending is preposterous. The film guides you only 1 way for the entire running time save the final couple moments & then sells out.

It wrecks all that has come before it.

The remake was okay, but it's the original I'll watch when I want to see "3:10 to Yuma" again. The original is superior in every way.
