'The 27th Day' now on DVD

Sinister Cinema has recently released THE 27TH DAY on DVD, in a good print. Until (and if) Sony/Columbia comes out with its own DVD, SinCin's should be quite acceptable for anyone looking for it. (Go to sinistercinema.com -- also check for sales, which they run fairly frequently).

I've also seen this available from scifistation.com but have no experience with their products.

UPDATE -- 8 years later.... The SinCin DVD has long been discontinued but the film is available directly from Columbia, on a Mill Creek DVD release of several sci-fi films, as well as a separate disc from their Sony Classics MOD line (from which all the Mill Creek films in that set have been taken).

That's great news!

She's no fun. She fell right over!

Sinister has outstanding quality overall. I always take advantage of the sales that they have during the year. I've got quite a few titles from them in my DVD movie collection and are very satisfied with them overall. Recommend highly!!

The spanish edition (is in english with spanish and french subtitles) is really nice.

This film is now also available on Region 1 DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment as part of a box set called Vintage Sci-Fi 6 Movie Collection.

reply

Yes, and it's also been available for several years from Columbia itself on the Sony Choice MOD line.

I've just received the Millcreek set and watched THE 27th DAY. The film is quite good and the picture/sound quality are excellent. For the price, I recommend this set over the individual Sony MOD releases.

reply

Is the film in widescreen? I've read mixed things about Mill Creek's output, in that and other regards.

reply

Yes, the film is in widescreen and looks great. This is one of Millcreek's better releases. Though this is the only film in the set that I have watched so far.

I've heard the four-film MC set that included Mothra was of mixed quality, though I haven't seen it. If you find any issues with any of the other films in the 27th Day set, could you please post a note here and let us know? Thanks very much!

reply

Will do, Hobnob. I just finished watching THE NIGHT THE WORLD EXPLODED and can say it was another excellent presentation. Picture and sound looked great on my Blu-Ray player. And it is also in widescreen, as originally presented.

It sounds like this set is in good shape. But your reviews are very much appreciated, detour1945. Thanks for the help!

(PS: Glad to see you're an Edgar Ulmer fan. Detour is great, though I'm partial to The Man From Planet X myself.)

reply

Most welcome, Hobnob. I believe the set is worth picking up.

Thanks, Ulmer is definitely a favourite. For me, DETOUR is his masterpiece, but THE MAN FROM PLANET X is good, too.
