Ymir was a victim of circumstance all in the name of scientific progress. I wonder if this movie bears an underlying statement about the treatment of animals and the ethics involved. The fact that it featured a much more familiar creature to us Earthlings, an elephant, becoming dangerous in the city streets outside of its controlled zoo habitat says a lot. I don't mean to drum up a contentious debate on how this relates to animal rights but more so to focus on the general welfare in our everyday interactions with other creatures.

Ymir was not evil. Neither are us humans but that doesn't stop us from doing harm. "Put a fork in it" took on a whole new meaning when mister famer man struck Ymir in its back with a pitchfork. Get it!

I remember our close encounters of a third kind on The Blob page. I came prepared this time, closely following the movie as to ready myself in case of a hearty discussion. I still need to get around to Gwangi, watch more shows than movies these days.
