12 Angry Men works better as a film than a play because of one scene

The scene where it's revealed that Juror 3 has issues with his son. In the film, he looks at a photo of his son, tears it up and then starts crying. It's a powerful and heartbreaking scene. But in the play, he gives an incredibly cheesy monologue about how he feels the knife going in his heart. And I understand why, because he can't show the audience a tiny photo. But that's why it shouldn't have been a play. I know it's just one scene, but it's the most important scene.
