The pending release of Zorro on DVD

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one waiting for this series on DVD. Next to the 60's Batman series, this is on my list of Must Have on my collection. And to be honest, and as I've said many times to my friends, they (the Mouse House) probably won't release the series until they come along with the Treasures volumes.

Though that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

With the Treasures Collection, you can at least expect each episode polished up for the release for audio and visual splendor, as well as some nice coverage by critic/historian Leonard Maltin.

My only hope is that if this is the case (and I would be my Oscar dreams on it - if this doesn't turn out to be the case, DON'T take away my dreams, please!!!), I hope that they release the ORIGINAL B&W VERSIONS of the series, otherwise I'll be very disappointed!

reply

i grew up watching the colorized versions on the family channel, so i want ethe DVDs to have both the B&W and colorized versions.

reply

I hope they release both versions, because the black & white ones are classic, but the colorized versions aren't bad. But I just hope they release it at all! I mean, there were only two seasons - they could release it in one big set! And the show was extremely popular at the time; surely someone's considered that there's a market for it on dvd.
It really was/is one of the best shows out there! (Guy Williams was awesome, and born to play that role. And everyone else on the show did a great job in their roles as well.)

The pending release of Zorro on DVD? Try looking at Amazon.co/France and amazingly enough, the first season of this wonderful piece of americana IS available in France. Volume 1 & 2 of the 1st season are are to be had in a Region 2, PAL format. Now I ask you, why did the House of Mouse release this series in France when we here in Region 1 North America are so hungry for this and many other Disney movies? I emailed Disney and they stated that there were no plans to release Zorro anytime soon and thank you for writing. Standard Disney response.

I recently bought this Zorro set from Amazon in France and it is Brillant!!!! Any one in the USA who has a multi-region dvd player can do the same!!! daytonacharger21 in Sidcup, Kent, UK

I am curious if the single color discs from France have more episodes (up through volume 6) than the multi disc B&W box set. Do you know ? (I can't quite read the print on the album covers on the Amazon site.) Which set did you have ? I am a little wary of getting a color version and just turning the color off. There still can be artifacts left from the colorization that make the picture not as crisp and sharp. (Also, the single discs are not as cost effective as the box set by a big factor.) Does the box set have all of season 1 ? If they release the other seasons in France as box sets, then it is a done deal for me.
Now if they would only release "The Scarecrow" with Patrick McGoohan on DVD !

In Spain it was released a few years ago:

A Deluxe Edition on 6 DVD of the complete first season with all 39 episodes (released by Buena Vista Spain) and with English, Spanish, French and Italian soundtrack and the respective subtitles

In the link you have more details (I think that you can choose the option of seeying the page in english too)

reply

I forget to mention that the spanish DVD collection is only 35 euros and the french DVDs (I think that they sold them separately) are 16 euros each one (that's 96 euros the first season!). As I said previously is the same edition but the spanish pack comes with all 6 dvds on one cardboard box with three double dvd cases inside (same image quality, languages and subtitles). I hope that I could help you ;)

Bewitched is only in color in Europe (At lest in Spain) no B&W only colored seasons

reply

i prefer color myself, since it's what i've always watched it as.

There is a legal right holder battle between Disney and the Estate of Guy Williams. It's all over $$$. I'd suggest contacting Guy Williams, Jr and his sister, Toni ( they have individual web sites ) and asking them for details. I doubt if Disney will be as honest as they can be.

The France release is typical of a film studio ( they love to export overseas ) but the US Region I one is in a crisis, thanks to Disney.

If you go to dvdavenue.tv they have the complete series for sale. They are an independent premier company. Take a look. Right now it is a little too expensive for my pocket but someday I hope to buy it. I don't know it is color or B&W but I am sure it is worth it regardless.

Volume 1 and Volume 2 is available in the US. It's available through the Disney DVD video club. --RickWJ324

Im getting crazy, cause there´s no place available with Zorro, if u don´t mind, i would like to know where exactly is Disney DVD video club. thnks. Please emal me: [email protected]. Thank you very much.

reply

The best way to join the club is to go here:
http://disney.videos.go.com/General/splash

Enter the code: 613005

This will give you 4 FREE movies plus an option to buy an additional dvd for $9.95 plus another one for $14.95. If you purchase the $14.95 dvd it counts towards your total that you have to buy. You have to buy 4 more in the next 2 years.

The club has quite a few "exclusives" including Ducktales: Legend of the Lost Lamp, Rocketman, Zorro Collection, and quite a few others.

Hope this helps!

pft, that doesn't help at all, because that forces me to JOIN the disney video club and then i have to buy a bunch of movies i don't want.

reply

Well... don't know what to tell ya! I just provided those that were interested in these a way to get them. It's up to you to join the club or not.

I joined the club to get Ducktales The Movie. I'm a frequent buyer of Disney movies, so the club worked out pretty well for me.

Ok

I have watched both DVDs....when do I get the next one. Zorro MUST defeat the Eagle!

I have been wishing for Zorro on DVD for years (ever since Vault Disney ended on the Disney Channel). I feel better now.

The Disney Movie Club currently has them on DVD. The first season alone is 5 volumes.

reply

So I just read that the volumes are the colored versions of the series. Oh well... I guess this will cover me until the real box set is released.

reply

Six volumes for Season 1 alone (and colorized), and exclusively from the Disney Movie Club. As a fan of classic live action Disney, the ghost of the Evil Eisner Empire (E3) strikes once more. Face it, we got hosed again!

reply

Go to disneydvdclub.com and search for Zorro. It's on that website for some reason, but not Disney's actual website. The DVD club is similar to Columbia House.

reply

The French set has 39 colorized episodes. (The colorizing is first rate.) Oddly, the default language of the French set is English.

reply

the first season of Zorro is currently on a 5 dvd set only available through their "Disney Movie Club". check out: "disney.videos.go.com";i also saw the dvd's on ebay & amazon. if you want to see the episodes in black & white, you'll have to mess with your tv color controls
