Song of the Trail sung by Johnny Cash?

It's common knowledge that Johnny Cash was a guest star on the CL Harding Story. But the credits also list "Song of the Trail sung by Johnny Cash".

Where in the episode did he sing? I rewatched this episode yesterday carefully, and I didn't hear anywhere in the episode with Johnny Cash singing. All the music seemed to be the normal soundtrack using the main theme. Cash isn't shown singing nor is any song played that appeared to be anything other than the typical background score.

I searched for Song of the Trail, and in one video it's played by Riders in the Sky. But I never heard it in the episode.

Anyone hear something I may have missed?

reply

Maybe the rights to the song were lost in syndication, as was the case for Cash's theme song for The Rebel?

No blah, blah, blah!

Thanks for the reply! Could be that your comment about the rights is correct, music licensing has been problematic over the years in relation to film and TV.

So it appears it was edited out. I wonder where in the episode it was played? There was no scene with anyone singing, but it could've been played in the background with scenes of the train moving, perhaps at the beginning of the episode. Or it might have been played during the closing credits instead of the main theme.

You got me, Ben. It most likely was edited out before I was born in the mid-'60s. 😃
