Just watched "Sun Bather's Diary" again. Two things struck me on renewed acquaintance with this ep. First, Hamilton Burger gets closer to convicting Perry of a felony than at any other time. Second, every guest character, apart from the defendant and murder victim, is up to no good. A police detective effectively perjures himself by falsely claiming he saw Mason leaving the scene of a murder, and all the other characters were involved in a criminal conspiracy--the leader was someone the defendant trusted more she trusted Perry! Can you think of another PM episode that plays out like Murder on the Orient Express, with nobody NOT being involved in the crime?

The episode that is on MeTV this morning, TCOT Borrowed Baby, doesn't seem to have any admirable characters in it. Everyone, including the cleanup lady in Perry's office, lies, and passes a little baby around like a hymn book at a revival meeting.

TCOT Sad Sicilian also has an over abundance of disreputable characters, with a decided lack of admirable characters.

I don't think the police detective perjured himself in that episode. Perjury involves "intent". He was mistaken about the identification and came to the wrong conclusion.

I am no lawyer, but I watched a lot of "Perry Mason" episodes.
