The Maverick Line Season 4 #10

It is my understanding that Mr. James Gardner left the Maverick show at the end of Season 3; how is it then that we see him in the show "The Maverick Line" which is shown well into Season 4 - in fact Mr. Roger Moore had already been seen on several episodes as Beau Maverick meaning he had taken the place of "Brett" in the show? Had the producers already filmed "The Maverick Line" and simply waited to show it? Did James Gardner come back to do a guest spot? Does anyone know the answer?

I am soo happy you asked this question. Because I have the answer for you. Here it is, I am now reading a fascinating book called MAVERICK: Legand of the West. Here is the background story on this episode. This episode was filmed in MARCH of 1960 BEFORE the start of a writers strike that put James Garner and Jack Kelly on suspendsion and also led to James Garner LEAVING Maverick after the strike ended. Anyway this particular episode was intended to be the 4TH season premiere of Maverick but was held back til NOV. sweeps. And instead The Bundle from britain episode introducing Roger Moore aired 1ST in place of the Maverick Line. I hope this info helps.

I answers it perfectly - thank you very much. I supposed that it must be something like that, but your answer was extra great because of all the background etc. Again, thank you. --Sharon

OP,
James Gardner didn't leave Maverick, because he was never a cast member in the first place. James GARNER left midway through the run of the show.
