appreciating Jack Kelly

Roy Huggins insisted that the stories nor the dialog be written for James Garner nor Jack Kelly -- the characters should be more or less interchangeable.

But watching the episodes with both, I have a new appreciation for Jack Kelly. Garner has a smooth, almost boyish charm, while Kelly is often edgy, even cold. They complement each other nicely.
