Ethel's Singing Voice

Does anyone know what was with Ethel's voice during the Milton Berle episode? They were performing a Western skit for the PTA and Vivian Vance had a solo. It sounded nothing like her " Lily of the Valley " days. It almost looked as if she was lip syncing. Just curious.

Definitely a dub... and really doesn't even sound like Viv. That whole western skit was creepy. Strange close ups, Ricky is the horse suit, Lucy getting scalped....

Also of note in that episode is how horrible the stunt people are during the scene where they are hanging off that painter's cart outside the window. The Lucy stunt person looked like Rose Marie from "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

I agree the Western skit is surreal, but I don't think Vivian Vance's solo is dubbed. I think she's just singing in a deeper, more natural voice, rather than her usual Ethel falsetto. People's voices often flatten out or deepen with age, especially if they're exposed to cigarette smoke. Check out Lucy's decidedly un-Lucy like deep singing voice in The Long, Long Trailer.

I believe Lucy's singing was dubbed in "The Long Long Trailer"
