Shouldn't have been made

It Happened One Night was such a good movie. It boggles the mind that someone thought Hey, let's make a remake of that movie! Because of course no remake could come close to matching the original.

Lemmon singing? 1950s tunes? Lemmon irresistibly handsome and virile to cause woman to fall head or hills? Not believable.

I wonder if that was really Lemmon singing. I love Jack Lemmon, but this is an example of a movie that shouldn't have been made. A way to try to make some cheap, fast bucks by cashing in on some real talent decades before.

As trivia, every time I see June Allyson I can't help but think of her marriage to Dick Powell, the director of this movie. The movie studio had put them together for PR purposes, but he wasn't crazy about her, although she fell for him. He was actually in love with someone else, I think. It took her some time, but finally she got him to come around and marry her. It worked out, but it was a strange start to a marriage. I wondered if he married her because his true love rejected him or married someone else (I seem to recall reading that). I saw her on TCM in interview by Robert Osborn. Interesting interview. She was elderly but still looked great. Powell was dead by then. She had interesting stories about her movies, the business, and Powell.

Maybe it shouldn't have been made but at least it's there for us to see.

I came across this movie while channel surfing one day and thought the summary sounded vaguely familiar to It Happened One Night which is my favorite movie. After watching a minute or two I was shocked that it was almost word for word to the original. I wasn't sure whether this was a knock off or what. Had to come to IMDB to find out what the deal was with this movie. Needless to say it pales in comparison to the original.
