War And Peace on Blu-ray disc.

The King Vidor version of War And Peace is now available on Blu-ray disc.

This disc has received widespread condemnation, mainly from people who have never seen the film in a cinema and who are more concerned to show off how much they know than to offer a sensible judgement.

There is a major fault with the disc. For some reason, the images are too dark. As a result the colours seem subdued and in several scenes the rear of the set is not visible. If the images were a bit brighter, I don't think there would have been a problem.

Apart from this one large problem, the disc is fine. Unfortunately, there are no extras.

I agree it's not the finest transfer; it's not a Criterion disc after all. I liked the performances very much: Audrey Hepburn as a version of a Jane Austen character pleased me, and Fonda was better than I thought he'd be.
