So Where is the DVD?

This movie, and two others of the mid-1950s, PILLARS OF THE SKY (1956) and WHITE FEATHER (1955) were daring enough to show native American issues of the late 19th Century more realistically, and even if they still had to have Hollywood stars portraying native Americans (like Anne Bancroft in this film, and Jeff Hunter in WHITE FEATHER), they at least portrayed the Indian characters as real people and not 2-dimensional stereotypes as most Hollywood movies had done prior to these.
By contrast, other westerns of this vintage, such as the awful CRAZY HORSE (1955) starring a miscast, mature Victor Mature in the title role, and THE FAR HORIZONS (1955) with a miscast Donna Reed in dark makeup, wigs and red paint as the so-called "Indian Princess" Sacajawea featuring actors in what my brothers call the "Instant Hollywood Indian Kit" (costume, wig and makeup) and a vocal imitation of Jay Silverheels as Tonto in THE LONE RANGER, still persisted in making native Americans look like ignorant, illiterate, bloodthirsty savages.

This is an important film, also because it stars famous decorated war hero Audie Murphy in the lead role, because it is the true story of Apache Indian Agent John Clum in the 1870s before he went to Tombstone, Arizona, and because it has real Apache heroes Eskiminzin and Geronimo in it. Also, it was made in beautiful Technicolor and wide-screen CinemaScope, and filmed near the actual locations where the true story happened near Tucson, Arizona.

So Universal, where is the DVD?
