I just saw this at the Pacific Film archives as part of the Babara Stanwyck 100 year festival.

Interesting to see these two people who had played so dark in Double Indemnity the previous decade, play so domestic here. They are absolutely believable. MacMurray was a much better actor than he is given credit for. In a time when acting was often over-the-top, he never went there but always remained compelling.

Babs is great and gorgeous as always!

This was post in '05, but I know that there is a 35mm copy circulating now (in '07) but I'm not sure if that means there is one coming out or not.... anyone? Criterion should do this....

A European release is scheduled for 2008, first in Germany as part of a Douglas Sirk boxset. Don't know about other countries, though!

This is a must for DVD and shockingly little-discussed in comparison to other Sirk films. Criterion would do well to pick this up and do it as well as they did the great Sirk/Rock Hudson duo All That Heaven Allows and Written On The Wind. This film is as richly textured as his best work.

They really ought to. It was terrible watching this on a bootleg VHS at school. It deserves to be available in a higher quality medium.

Masters of Cinema (UK) will release it feb 2010.

Just watched the Masters of Cinema DVD tonight, and it looks gorgeous (finally!). There's a 61-minute documentary mostly comprised of interview clips with Sirk, along with a partial trailer (no on-screen text; apparently there's no extant copy of the complete trailer). This is a must-buy for fans of tragic melodrama. Incredibly moving.

This is coming out on a Barbara Stanwyck Collection DVD-Set in late April of 2010!
