Can you be an atheist, and this be your favorite movie of all time?

Ummmmmmm...............just asking for a friend.

reply

First, can you learn how to use the language? We have to translate your post from incoherent semi-english to...
"Can an atheist have this film as their favorite movie of all time?" (That's my best guess.)
Anyway, answering what I assume the question to be... Why not? I'm an atheist and I love this film and watch it as often as The Wizard of Oz. Neither is my favorite movie of all time, but that's because I have so many favorites.

reply

It was a typo error. I corrected it. (geez)

reply

Sorry. I spent too much time on Quora just lately... There are questions there that seem to have been generated by people who learned their English on freaking Mars or something.

reply

Right on.

reply

Not everyone on MC is a native English speaker.

reply

Yes, well, i stay off French/German/Russian (et-f*ing-cetera) sites because using high-school language memory and Google translate would just make my posts an embarrassment. There's just no point posting in a foreign language if you can't render it understandably.

reply

Some people have a good enough grasp of English to be able to communicate here without being native speakers. Just because your second-language skills suck doesn´t mean others shouldn´t be given leeway if they feel like their English is good enough to post here.

reply

Yes, but if it's painfully bad, (and on Quora, I encounter questions that can not be made sense of), it fails to communicate. And that is not merely annoying - (And yes my threshold of annoyance is lamentably low these days. Sorry.) - but totally useless.

reply

I have to laugh that you mocked his sentence, then offered the awkward construction "Can an atheist have this film as their favorite movie of all time?" as a replacement. You don't seem to have any better grasp on the language than the O.P.

reply

If you can tell what the person meant - you can use the language.
Conversation is like a game of catch, the speaker can throw the ball, but not always will they throw it right into the mitt of the catcher - so the catcher must expect some effort to acquire the ball. It takes two, so if the catcher expects the thrower to land the ball perfectly in his mitt, he is a lazy bum.

reply

Yes. Quora sucks balls. It should be taken off the Internet.

I haven't seen this in a long time. I just got a copy. I may watch it again.

reply

Nor is everyone on MC educated, nor gives a shit. None of those factors is acceptable.

Do not tolerate stupidity.

reply

Of course. Why not?

reply

Another vote for “sure, why not?”.
I’m no Jedi, but I still love Star Wars.

reply

👍

reply

Of course you can. It's a great movie. You don't have to believe in the subject to appreciate it as a work of art.

reply

THIS FILM IS FICTION...LIKE EVERY OTHER FILM...

Hey, the poster could just as easily be an orthodox Jew... Old Testament and all.

Theologically, this film is set before Jehovah met a nice Jewish girl, had a kid and settled down to a less wrathful existence.

reply

Why not? Great performances by Heston and Brynner. Excellent direction by de Mille. Epic story. Supernatural elements.

I am an atheist who loves this movie. I also love Ben Hur (which was my favorite film for years).

reply

Sure. Fantasy films can be great films too
