I Was 11 When Our Mother Took Me to See This Film

I remember that they sold a filmbook at the theater with articles on the research and work that went into the making of this film. Mamma bought one. I wish I had found it when she passed away. I would have liked it read it again.

One thing's for sure - those designs indicate how much importance and craftsmanship went into the production of this film, high-art marketing elevating social allure.

You ever look at a crowd scene from something like this or Lawrence of Arabia and think, "Man, not a single one of those hundreds of people are CGI..."

Yes. That is one reason that I prefer Spartacus (1960) to Gladiator.

All hail Google that findeth anything, even Cecil B. De Mille Ten Commandments booklets.

And films in those days didn't have the unnecessary, gratuitous levels of brutal violence of more recent historical movies.

Yes! I loved that filmbook. Thanks!

I went to see the movie in 1956 when I was 6. I had a souvenir book but it was different than the one in the link. Mine had color shots of different scenes from the movie. I couldn't open up the Amazon link, so maybe that was the one I had.
