Airing this Saturday (4/20) on ABC

ABC will be airing The Ten Commandments for the 45th time this Saturday. They have aired the film around Easter every year since 1973, except for 1999.

I watched the movie for the first time a year or two ago and thought it was great. I'll be happy to rewatch it this weekend, and it will be the first time I've ever caught the annual ABC airing.

It's a true classic.

I've seen a lot of people say this but I actually ASSUMED it would air around Easter before I even knew that it did.

It may not be about Jesus, but it is biblical, and for the Christian the entire biblical story ultimately the points to Jesus.

This is for Passover, not Easter.

I’ve watched it at least 10 times already and try watching it every time on Easter. It turned it into a tradition for me. Now watching it in HD on a big TV screen is much better than let’s say 20 years ago, so it only got better.

Great tradition.....1956. Crazy...

This only my second time watching it. I'm a bit disappointed to see that they cut out Cecil B. DeMille's preamble and also that they crop the picture so that it fills the screen.

But it's fun to watch it "live" with the rest of the world.

Oh you're right. Thanks. Fixed.

The annual broadcast of The Ten Commandments at this time of year is actually for Jewish *Passover*, not Easter. Think about it .. the original passover story is a *huge* part of this movie. I don't know why everybody assumes this is for Easter. Christianity isn't the only major religion in the USA.

reply

Well that's true.

I think ABC is really airing it for both, Passover and Easter. Though my dad said the other day that they air it for the Jews as an alternative to Jesus-related programming.

As I said earlier in the thread though, even without knowing that ABC aired The Ten Commandments every year around Easter, for some reason I just assumed someone probably did, even without considering the Passover connection.
