Lotus Blossom's dance

In the teahouse, Lotus Blossom does a beautiful dance. I thought at first she was supposed to be enacting the four seasons, but she only changes her kimono three times. This dance is clearly real, I'd love to know what it is.

Me too. I wonder if it is traditionally Okinawan or more mainland Japanese

reply

The language spoken throughout is mainland Japanese, not Okinawan. I recognize some of the costuming, in particular the orange and turquoise blue women's hats worn for the dance as definitely Okinawan, not mainland Japanese. I cannot speak to the dance itself. I don't know Okinawan and Japanese dances well enough. Since the Asian actors were Japanese, not Okinawan, the dance is probably mainland Japanese.
